Dual Enrollment College Classes
As we are an early college high school, students at PCA are uniquely positioned to leverage dual enrollment college classes! Here are some useful resources.
Why Dual Enrollment?
Why Should You Take Dual Enrollment?
Dual Enrollment is a great option for students for many reasons:
1. Builds confidence in their ability to complete a college level class
2. GPA boost on your PCA transcript as well as UC and CSU college applications
3. Receive high school credits
4. Receive college credit (all college classes become part of your permanent college transcript)
What Classes Should I Take?
You can take any course that is not offered synchronously at PCA. There are two different types of college classes:
- CCAP courses are sections specifically offered only to high school students. PCA offers multiple CCAP classes on our campus each year, and we strongly recommend those options
- General catalog courses are all of the classes that can be taken by any college student
- High School Requirements: Taking classes that fulfill your high school and A-G college entrance requirements are a great place to start. Most PCA students take World Language and Visual and Performing Arts courses via dual enrollment.
- General Education: Taking college classes that meet the general education requirements will put you ahead. You should focus on the Cal-GETC courses, which allow prospective transfer students from California Community Colleges to satisfy the lower-division/general education breadth requirements in both the California State University (CSU) and University of California (UC) systems.
- What is Cal-GETC?
- Cal-GETC at FLC - Career Exploration: Take a class that is not offered in our district that will help you learn more about a particular career path you are interested in.
- Advancement: You may choose to take additional core academic classes beyond what is offered at PCA, such as Calculus or additional English classes.
We recommend that you remain in close contact with Mrs. Carrillo, guidance counselor, on your dual enrollment plans.
How Do I Enroll?

If you would like to attend a California Community College that is not part of the Los Rios Community College District, please make an appointment with your counselor as the process is a bit different for each community college.
Once you have completed the enrollment process, make sure that you complete the Dual Enrollment Pre-approval and Agreement Form and submit it to the office. This will help us ensure that your high school courseload accurately reflects the classes you are taking and that the course(s) you selected are eligible to count on your PCA transcript:
